Cristina began teaching as a Teaching Artist at the Colburn School's Jumpstart Young Musicians Program. Jumpstart is a comprehensive, scholarship-supported program that provides pathways for personal and artistic excellence to low-income students who show a commitment to learning music. With a full curriculum specifically designed for 115 fifth through eighth grade students, participants receive small group lessons and ensemble instruction five days each week, providing a foundation of skills, experience, and confidence that will facilitate their assimilation into regular community school instruction and ensembles. Upon completion of Jumpstart, students who demonstrate an intermediate to advanced level of musicianship are invited to continue their scholarship-supported music education through high school. In Los Angeles, Cristina taught group lessons to Low Brass (trombone, euphonium, and tuba) and kept a private studio of tuba and trombone players.
